 The last two cars of a train, one of which was carrying a large amount of propane, overturned on the railroad tracks between Brighton Avenue and Colvin Street, said Jenn Horvath, public information officer of DPS.

The second car of the train is believed to contain soybeans.

Traffic headed northbound and southbound on Route 81 is currently being directed to Route 481 and Route 690, according to a Nov. 11 SU News release.

A number of Syracuse residents who live within a 1000-ft. radius of the site, from Berwyn Avenue to Benedict Avenue, have been evacuated, Horvath said. The Syracuse Police Department went door-to-door asking residents to leave the area, Horvath said.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter for community evacuees at the Westcott Community Center.

The incident has yet to affect any SU properties, said Sara Miller, associate director of SU News Services. If any locations on campus need to be evacuated officials will post updates on the SU News website, Miller said.

Any SU students or employees living off-campus who are asked to evacuate by SPD should report to the Goldstein Student Center on South Campus, according to the release. Those without a means of transportation to South Campus should call DPS.

SU community members who live in the evacuation area and have an emergency are encouraged to call the Department of Public Safety, according to the release.

The SU football game against the University of South Florida at the Carrier Dome, as well as other Orange Central events are scheduled to take place as planned, Miller said.

Fans traveling to the game are advised to plan ahead and leave early due to the closures of both Route 81 North and Route 81 South, according to the release. Campus buses are running as scheduled.
