Syracuse University’s 2015 commencement speaker to be announced this week
Syracuse University’s commencement speaker this year will be announced some time this week, a 2015 class marshal said, making this the latest in five years that a speaker has been announced.
Ronald Taylor, one of the two class marshals for the class of 2015, said he has been told the speaker for this year’s commencement ceremony will likely be announced this week, adding that he’s not sure what the reason for the delay is. Commencement will take place May 10 in the Carrier Dome. At Wednesday’s University Senate meeting, senators are expected to discuss honorary degree candidates, including those eligible to receive an honorary degree at commencement.
Last year’s commencement speaker was David Remnick, editor of The New Yorker. That speaker choice was announced on March 31, 2014. The year before that, the commencement speaker was The New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof. He was announced as the speaker on March 4, 2013.
Prior to that, Aaron Sorkin, an award-winning television writer and SU alumnus, was announced as the class of 2012 commencement speaker on March 8, 2012.
