How to wear high fashion makeup every day

The wrap-up of spring New York Fashion Week signals the launch of new trends heading our way in the fall. With beauty often overlooked at fashion shows (which can be just as painstaking to put together as the outfits) it can be easy to get stuck in the same old makeup rut. Get ahead of the curve with four of the most iconic — and totally doable — beauty looks that you can sport inside and outside of the classroom.
Girly grunge from Rodarte

Rodarte is famous for bringing Victorian glamour and feminine fantasy to the runway, so this look is perfect for those interested in making an impact with their makeup using as few products as possible. Start with a clean slate for foundation and dust your brows with a pencil or pomade slightly lighter than your natural hair color. Then, gel them in a manner that looks a bit disheveled. Go over your lashes lightly with a brown mascara and modestly dust your cheeks with a pale blush.
For the finishing touch, add a deep wine-red lipstick. If you don’t own a darker shade, line your lips with black eyeliner first, go over your lips with your favorite red and blend for your perfect grunge lip. This makeup complemented the “leather n’ lace” ensembles featured on the catwalk and works best with edgier outfits.

Graphic lids allows you get crafty with liner skills while keeping your look modern with a retro spin. For beginners, outline the shape of your eyelid with pencil liner and follow lightly with a dusty gray or black eyeshadow to conceal any mistakes. For the more experienced beauty guru, use liquid eyeliner to create sharp cuts for a clean look. Apply your darkest mascara, and, for an even more ’60s look, false lashes.
Go bold with your brows in a shade that matches your hair color or even one shade darker. Paint your lips with a matte dusty pink that’s natural but not too nude. To increase the drama, match your blush to your lip color. This collection featured the classic turtleneck in unexpected colors and fabrics, so don’t be afraid to pair this makeup with your next go-go inspired getup.
Barbie beauty from Jeremy Scott

Jeremy Scott is well known for all-out color and camp on the runway. Go with Barbie’s favorite makeup shades, cotton candy pink and baby blue, to match this upcoming season’s look. Apply a light pink eyeshadow directly to the lids followed by a light blue shadow above the crease. Fill in the crease with a darker blue and line your eyes with a similar shade. Use your darkest mascara on your top and bottom lashes.
Keep your brows neat, mimicking the iconic doll’s, and dust your cheeks with your pinkest blush — just enough to show, or else you’ll risk drifting into clown territory. A bright fuchsia lip completes the look. Scott went with beehive ‘dos, graphic tees in cheeky colors and tiger-striped sweater dresses, looks only a doll could love. So come on, Barbie, go find your Ken and party.
Goth glam from Fenty x Puma

Rihanna brought “health goth,” high-end athletic wear with goth elements, to the runway in her latest collection for the iconic sneaker brand. To channel this look, you’ll need five products at most. Keep your skin fresh and matte and fill in your brows with black or dark brown to create a sharp shape. Line your waterline with a chunky kohl liner in your blackest black, bringing it upwards to form an upside-down cat eye. Dust lightly with a glittery black shadow for a smoky effect.
Use your same kohl, or better yet, a black matte lipstick to complete the look. To take the look up a notch, a glitter to the center of your lips to make them appear fuller, since dark colors tend to make the lips look smaller. Bring health goth to the streets with your favorite all-black athleisure and look so cool, even RiRi herself would have to do a double take.
