Syracuse University announced on Tuesday that a “Euclid Shuttle” bus route will begin at the start of the spring semester in an effort to increase transportation options for students living off campus in the University Hill neighborhood.

Students will be able to take the shuttle from Euclid Avenue to Westcott Street on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, according to an SU News release. Specific times and routes for the shuttle will be posted to SU’s Parking and Transit website in the next few weeks, according to the release.

Student Association President James Franco and SA Vice President Angie Pati made the Euclid Shuttle a centerpiece of their campaign last academic year. Franco has said the shuttle could improve off-campus student safety.

The shuttle will be one of the university’s first Invest Syracuse projects, said Senior Vice President for Enrollment and the Student Experience Dolan Evanovich, in the news release.

University leaders, SA members and Graduate Student Organization representatives all contributed to the project’s planning, according to the release.

Officials from the university’s Divisions of Enrollment and the Student Experience; Business, Finance and Administrative Services; and Campus Safety and Emergency Services also worked on the project, per the release.

“We truly believe that this will improve the quality of student life for many, as students now can have access to a consistent, convenient and safe way to travel around the most heavily student-populated neighborhoods off campus,” Franco said in the news release.
