Syracuse University will have its first-ever social justice day next month, hosted by University Union and The National Pan-Hellenic Council, the organizations announced Thursday.
The event aims to unite the campus and Syracuse community for a conversation and celebration surrounding social justice, and will be sponsored by the Student Association, according to a joint press release.
Dubbed “Cuse For Good: Social Justice,” the three-part event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17. The day begins with a social justice panel at noon in Goldstein Auditorium, followed by a free lunch in Panasci Lounge that features foods from eight different cultures, per the release.
The day concludes with a concert in Goldstein Auditorium at 8 p.m. Lineups for the panel and concert will be announced Feb. 4 along with ticket prices, according to the release.
Jonah Rappaport, president of University Union, said it’s nice to see the idea come to fruition.
“Through collaboration with NPHC and SA, Cuse for Good has transformed from just an idea back in October to a day of social justice on campus,” he said. “All of us are looking forward to a full day of conversation, giving back to the Syracuse community, and the opportunity of future collaboration.”
To preface the event, Orange After Dark will collaborate with SA, Light on Ebony, NPHC, Mixtape, Renegades and Femme Noir to host a film premiere of “Black Panther” on Feb. 15 at Regal Cinemas at Destiny USA. Movie tickets are $3, which includes transportation to and from the mall, per the release.
Tickets for the event will go on sale Feb. 5 at 9 a.m. Tickets for “Cuse for Good” are available for students, faculty, staff and the general public, per the release.
All proceeds from the “Black Panther” premiere and “Cuse for Good” will be donated to Syracuse City Schools, including Van Duyn Elementary School, Grant Middle School and Fowler High School.
