A Syracuse Police Department representative says the department hopes to have a reconstruction of the fatal crash involving SU head coach Jim Boeheim completed by the end of the week.
Boeheim fatally struck and killed 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez of Syracuse on Interstate 690 on Wednesday night. Jimenez was traveling in a vehicle that lost control, swerved into a guardrail and landed in the middle of the interstate eastbound near Thompson Road, SPD Sgt. Matthew Malinowski said Thursday. The oncoming vehicle, driven by Boeheim, tried to avoid the car but hit Jimenez, who was standing on the side of the road, police said.
Speed does not appear to be a major factor in either crash at this time, SPD Lt. David Brown said in an email to The Daily Orange. Police also said that alcohol was not a factor in either crash, and weather has not yet been ruled out as a factor in the crash.
“We don’t want to piecemeal information and have people draw conclusions based on incomplete information,” Brown said.
