My time working in house was wildly different from what I imagined first semester of my freshman year. Back then, it was still the Pulp section (#RIPPulp). I’ve had anything but a normal college experience so far, so it’s only fitting that the same goes for The Daily Orange.

It’s a bit odd to refer to this past year as working “in-house” considering I spent many of my D.O. nights working from my South Campus apartment. Regardless, it was still a good time. I wouldn’t trade the long, loud and busy nights at 230 Euclid for anything.

Sydney: Syd, my fellow Bostonian, thank you for your guidance this semester, helping me grow as a journalist and pushing me to try new things. And for helping me bring my NEDA Week passion project to life so beautifully. You have brought so much light, so much energy and so many new ideas to the section this semester. I’ll miss hanging out and chatting with you and the rest of the Culture Crew in the house, but I know you’re going to kill it hosting Peeling It Back!

Louis: It’s wild to me that we worked together as copy editors for months without ever meeting in person, but I’m glad you came to campus this semester. It’s been nice having someone to talk cameras and photography with. I’ve seen how dedicated you are to Culture and how you pour so much of you into your articles. With that being said, I have no doubt that you are going to do amazing things with the section next semester.

Chris Scarglato: We first met at The D.O. Halloween party freshman year, which is so classic. Shoutout to Diana lol. It’s been a time working together. I’m always amazed at how much care and effort you put into every piece and I hope you keep that dedication with you as a senior staff writer and into your future career.

Abby Presson and Jordan: Although we didn’t get to spend too much time together in person, I still feel like I got to know you both. Albeit mostly through Slack. You are both incredible writers and editors, and no one better could have filled Louis’ and my shoes. I can’t wait to see y’all continue to grow as journalists and do cool things.

Abby Weiss: Abby, the one and only digital queen. Working alongside you this semester has been a joy, even if we didn’t work at the same time. Thank you for teaching me how to use Flourish, and for being someone I can spill tea with. I can’t imagine anyone more deserving of DME, so congratulations!

KJ: I’m sorry I probably made your job a lot harder than it had to be at times. I’m also really sorry that you’re allergic to avocados. But in all seriousness, thank you for showing me the ropes of digital and putting up with my cluelessness at times and for making the house loud and entertaining.

Casey and Emma: Both of you have been so welcoming and kind since my first day, and you both have really made 230 feel like home. Emma, I will miss walking into the house and seeing the killer outfits you wear, and Casey, I’ll miss your humor and kindness. You are truly a dynamic duo, and you both did a beautiful job running The D.O. this year.

Mandy: You are such a sweet, kindhearted person and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to work with you and learn from you. Your love for journalism and sharing other people’s stories shines through in your writing. Welcome back, I’m eager to see what you will do with The D.O. this upcoming year.

Emily: Your talent and dedication to The Daily Orange is unreal. As is your organization. Working with you has been easy and enjoyable. I always love seeing the photos you take and how beautifully they come out. I can tell you are going to be an amazing EIC and keep The D.O. fabulous.

Sarah: Sarah, you are an incredible friend and role model and one of the reasons I decided to write for Pulp. You were the first person I met when I came to 744 Ostrom to learn about The D.O. and immediately made me feel welcome there. That night my freshman fall I did reads with you in house is one of my most special D.O. memories. Thank you for helping me with my application for copy, driving me places and answering all of my Florence questions.

Diana: I miss your vibrant energy and enthusiastic greetings. Your encouragement is the reason I decided to apply for copy editor. You helped me take on my first print A1 my first semester, and that will forever be one of my favorite articles. Thank you for believing in me, even when I was just a freshman who knew little beyond high school journalism.

Chris Cicchiello: We may not have gotten to work together very long, but in the brief time you were leading Culture/Pulp, I learned a lot from you. Thank you for taking the time to help me with my lede a few months back and for being someone I know I can reach out to for help or with questions.

Mom: Thank you for being my biggest supporter and sharing all my articles on Facebook. I promise I’m going to keep writing articles so you can continue to brag about me.

Everyone else: Thank you for everything you bring to The D.O. and making it as wonderful as it is. My time in house was what it was because of each of you.
