Former Syracuse guard Quadir Copeland has transferred to McNeese State, he announced Wednesday on social media. Copeland spent two seasons with the Orange before entering the transfer portal on March 18.
With the Orange in the 2023-24 season, Copeland started just one game but was a key contributor off the bench. As the team’s sixth man — and the runner-up for Atlantic Coast Conference Sixth Man of the Year — he averaged 9.6 points per game, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 32 games.
The highlight of his sophomore season and likely his SU career came on Jan. 20, when Copeland hit a buzzer-beater 3 to push Syracuse past Miami 72-69. Copeland also took home ACC Player of the Week honors on Jan. 2 after tallying a game-high 22 points against Pitt on Dec. 30.
Copeland joins McNeese State after a successful first season under Will Wade. The Cowboys won the Southern Conference in 2023-24 and fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Gonzaga.
Copeland is the fifth Syracuse transfer to find a new team in this season’s transfer portal cycle. Mounir Hima and William Patterson are the final two Syracuse players who remain in the transfer portal.
