Start off Father’s Day weekend early with these local events

Event: Annual Summer Picnic
When: Thursday 6-9 p.m.
Where: Everson Museum of Art
Desc.: To kick off the summer, the Everson Museum of Art invites members of the community to its Annual Summer Picnic during which winners of the Everson Medal and Volunteer Awards will be presented. As the museum’s largest fundraiser, proceeds go toward funding new exhibitions, children’s classes, free family programs, among other activities.

Event: PRIDE
When: Thursday, 7-9 p.m.
Where: ArtRage Gallery
Desc.: Come watch the free screening of “PRIDE,” a movie about gay activists in United Kingdom who work to help miners during the strike of the National Union of Mineworkers in 1984, which is based on a real-life incident.

Event: An Evening with Los Lobos
When: Friday, 9 p.m.
Where: Syracuse University Schine Student Center
Desc.: Grammy Award-winning band Los Lobos, whose music is a mix of rock, Tex-Mex, country, folk, R&B, blues and traditional Spanish and Mexican genres, will perform in their 44th year of making music together. You may know them from their hit “La Bamba.”

Event: 2017 Syracuse Friends and Family 5k Presented by IRONMAN
When: Saturday, 9 a.m.
Where: Jamesville Beach Park
Desc.: Support or participate in the 5k cross country run along the Jamesville Reservoir. Register here.

Event: Art on the Porches 2017
When: Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: Art on the Porches
Desc.: Check out this family-friendly festival featuring an arts and craft show, live music, art, kids’ activities, food and a parade in the historic Strathmore neighborhood.



Event: Outdoor Vendor & Craft Fair
When: Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Where: Bryant & Stratton College
Desc.: Support the Bryant & Stratton College Relay for Life team at this outdoor vendor and craft fair filled with food, raffles and shopping.

Event: 5th Annual Nelson Odeon Skunk Funk
When: Saturday, 1 p.m.
Where: Nelson Odeon
Desc.: In its fifth year, the Skunk Funk music festival will feature The Jon Stickley Trio, The Ruddy Well Band, Brother Brothers, Mile Twelve and Jason Schnitt. Food and drinks from Empire Brewing and Stockyard Barbecue will be available for purchase.

Event: Father’s Day Barbecue
When: Sunday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Where: The Inns of Aurora
Desc: Chefs at the Inn will create a three-course dinner taking into consideration “dad’s favorites” served in their dining room. The lakeside lawn will be open before and after dinner for games, drinks and free beer for dad.
